With UCP Leader Danielle Smith winning her bid to be re-elected to the Legislature on November 8th, the nearly wholesale change in Conservative leadership in Canada is complete.
On January 1st, 2022 the head of the federal party was Erin O’Toole, and Conservative stalwart Jason Kenney, a major player in the Harper government was Premier of Alberta, often considered the heart of “Conservative country”.
Before the Calendar has even flipped to 2023 both are gone. Pierre Poilievre was elected the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada in record-breaking dominant fashion, and Danielle Smith, former leader of the Wildrose party, turned sellout to the old Conservative party, turned renegade, turned now leader of the new Conservative Party is in charge in Alberta.
It’s a drastic change. Both leaders were elected largely by party members who were simply looking for someone completely different than the previous leader.
Is this change good?
Time will ultimately tell, but before we give time a chance….what do you think?
Good, bad, mixed? What do you think?
